To prevent hepatitis A, a person can receive either:
- Immune globulin or
- Hepatitis A vaccine

Prevention of Hepatitis B
To prevent hepatitis B, the best protection is to receive:
Other ways to prevent hepatitis B are to:
- Use latex condoms when having sex
- Avoid sharing needles, syringes or other items (e.g. toothbrushes or razors) that have been or can be infected by the blood or bodily fluids of someone with hepatitis B.
- (For pregnant women with chronic hepatitis B) take proper medications that reduce the risk of giving or passing hepatitis B to their babies.
