Prevention of Hepatitis A

To prevent hepatitis A, a person can receive either:

  • Immune globulin or
  • Hepatitis A vaccine

Prevention of Hepatitis B

To prevent hepatitis B, the best protection is to receive:

  • Hepatitis B vaccine

Other ways to prevent hepatitis B are to:
  • Use latex condoms when having sex
  • Avoid sharing needles, syringes or other items (e.g. toothbrushes or razors) that have been or can be infected by the blood or bodily fluids of someone with hepatitis B.
  • (For pregnant women with chronic hepatitis B) take proper medications that reduce the risk of giving or passing hepatitis B to their babies.

Prevention of Hepatitis C

To prevent hepatitis C,
